Simien Mountains - Roof of Africa
The Simien Mountains National Park is a dramatic landscape of deep valleys, jagged peaks, and sheer precipices dropping over 1,500 meters. Known as the 'Roof of Africa' because of its towering altitudes, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its trekking trails and endemic wildlife.
Trekkers in the Simiens are almost guaranteed to encounter large troops of Gelada Baboons (often called the bleeding-heart baboons due to the red chest patch), which are incredibly friendly and habituated.
The park is also the final refuge of the endangered Walia Ibex (a rare wild mountain goat) and the elusive Ethiopian Wolf, offering nature lovers an adventure unlike any other on the planet.
